Tummy time really does matter for your baby's development. Research shows that babies who spend regular time on their bellies develop stronger muscles and better overall motor skills—rolling, sitting, crawling, and eventually walking all build on this foundation. Your baby's core strength (their ability to stabilize their torso and stay upright) is especially important; between 7 and 12 months, research suggests that a stronger core is associated with when she'll hit bigger movement milestones. Tummy time can also help prevent flat head syndrome. You don't need special equipment or long stretches—just regular, consistent time on the belly during those first months. Think of it as building the physical foundation your baby needs to explore her world. Even a few minutes several times a day makes a real difference.
