Getting the Dose Right
One of the most important things you can do is make sure your child gets the correct dose of fever medicine — and research suggests this is trickier than you might think. Studies have found that many parents struggle to figure out how much to give and measure it properly. Common mistakes include measuring wrong, calculating the wrong amount, or both. The good news? This isn't about you being careless — it's often about confusing instructions on the bottle or package. Before you leave the pharmacy or doctor's office, ask the pharmacist or pediatrician to walk you through the exact dose based on your child's weight and age. Keep that guidance handy (write it down, take a photo, or ask for it in writing). Don't switch between medicines without checking with your doctor first.
