Getting a Good Latch
Sore nipples and breastfeeding pain are really common in those first weeks—and they're usually fixable. While latch position is a frequent cause of nipple pain, other factors like tongue-tie can also contribute. The key is getting a latch where your baby's mouth creates even pressure all around your breast, rather than stretching your nipple too much. Between feedings, keep the area dry. If pain persists after you've adjusted the latch, that's when to reach out to a lactation consultant—they can assess whether tongue-tie or other issues might be involved. The good news? This is one of the most treatable breastfeeding problems, especially with the right support in those early days.
