Q: I have a job interview and want to look professional but do I have to wear a stuffy suit? What are some more feminine options or ways I can show my personal style and still be taken seriously?

A: Great question. For a more stylish, fresh take on professional, always break up a suit. Wear the skirt or pants with a blouse and tweed jacket, tailored leather jacket or a cardigan, and wear the suit jacket with a solid or print pencil skirt, or different color trouser. Ankle pants are also a good choice during warmer months. No frayed edges, low cut tops or short skirts. And let’s not forget about dresses! The classic wrap dress with a tank top underneath to ensure no cleavage is showing is a great choice, or try a button up, belted dress for a classic approach. It’s a good idea to keep the style of your clothes simple and appropriate.  You can implement your personal style in the details-prints and colors of your clothing, as long as your entire outfit isn’t a bright array of neon or anything graphic.  After all, you want them to focus on YOU, not your clothes. Remember to also keep your hair out of your face and your makeup simple.
